Jerzy Buzek è stato protagonista del movimento sindacale democratico polacco “Solidarnósc”, nonché dei negoziati per l’accesso della Polonia stessa nell'UE. Dal 1997 al 2001 è stato Primo Ministro del suo paese. Membro del Parlamento Europeo dal 2004, ha fatto parte della Commissione per l'industria, la ricerca e l'energia e della delegazione per le relazioni con l’Ucraina. Dal 2009 è il Presidente del Parlamento Europeo.

Jerzy Buzek began his political career as an activist in the “Solidarity” trade union movement in Poland. He would later become Prime Minister of his country, between 1997 and 2001. Elected MEP in 2004, after the admission of Poland, Buzek has been member of the EP’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and of the Parliament’s delegation for relations with Ukraine. On 14 July 2009, he was elected President of the EP.
