The Massacre of the Innocents by Marco Benefial. Presentation of the restoration

The Uffizi Gallery on Monday features the restoration of the large and dramatic painting by Marco Benefial representing the “Massacre of the Innocents” (1730). Benefial was one of the chief and controversial protagonists of the eighteenth-century art in Rome and the restoration of this painting, carried out by Elda Nozzoli and managed by Valentina Conticelli, allowed the renovation of a highly significant eighteenth-century work. The canvas, which originally comes from the Feroni collection and which, for conservative reasons, was kept in the Uffizi store-rooms for a long time, will be placed again in the Gallery for the occasion.
