The Historical Archives of the European Union and the European University Institute, within the ambit of the Festival d’Europa, organize two exhibitions on the role of Italy in the European integration process and the contribution of the Institute within this context. The exhibition will be held at the Badia Fiesolana on 9th May and will illustrate some significant transitional moments of the history of the European University Institute, a relevant cultural presence for Florence for over thirty years; the magnificent cloister and the loggia of the Badia will be enhanced by lighting scenes. At the Palazzo Vecchio, from 6th to 10th May, throughout the Festival, another exhibition will be held, illustrating the most significant moments of the European unification process through the rich photographic, film and documentary material available at the Historical Archives of the European Union.

The association Meridiani Relazioni Internazionali, in cooperation and with the support of the Faculty of Political Science “Cesare Alfieri” of the University of Florence, organizes a Call for Papers titled “I costi della Non Europa” (The costs of Non Europe). The papers received will be assessed by a committee of teachers who are members of the Scientific Committee of Meridiani Relazioni Internazionali. The three best papers will be presented and awarded at the Festival d’Europa, which will be held in Florence from 6th to 10th May 2011. The authors of the winning papers will be invited to Florence, where they will have the possibility of attending directly the main events organized on the occasion.

Networks and infrastructures for Europe
United Europe is not only a political project but a complex socio-cultural and economic scenario requiring the support of efficient infrastructures, networks and networking dynamics. To this end, the Associazione Acc participates in the Festival d’Europa featuring from 6th to 10th May exemplary initiatives and projects through an exhibition arranged in the courtyard of the Dogana di Palazzo Vecchio. Moreover, on 10th May from 9 a.m, a Forum in the Salone dei Dugento, in Palazzo Vecchio as well, is planned with the purpose of addressing issues such as urban and regional mobility in the European scenario, generation and distribution of energy in the European continent: from non-renewable resources to new models of “green” energy and the representation of projects within the ambits of the informational and digital fields, of applications for culture and of networking experiences.
