The round-table meeting aimed at bringing again to the attention of the public the revealing work of Giovanni Semerano, «Le origini della cultura europea», published by Olschki in two volumes – consisting of 4 tomes in total – between 1984 and 1994. The research carried out by Semerano offers a wide documentation on the rise and development of our languages and of our European civilization, clarifying the mystery which enfolded the origins of many words, including those directed to the common language, and providing a fundamental collection through etymological dictionaries, from Semitic bases to Indo-European languages, to Greek, Latin, to the modern words.
