Fabbrica Europa, protagonist at the Festival d’Europa

Fondazione Fabbrica Europa per le Arti Contemporanee promotes relationships among territory, creativity and contemporary production, realizing projects and cultural events in Florence and in Tuscany able to develop productive synergies at European and international level.

Fabbrica Europa - festival internazionale della scena contemporanea– was founded in 1994 with the ambitious target of creating in Florence a home for the artists coming from all over Europe, and over the years it has emerged as a laboratory and permanent forum for the renewal of the languages and the arts. During its 18 years of activity, it gave the city back a large space such as the nineteenth-century Stazione Leopolda, with a project of European importance where modernity and identity, communicative effectiveness and social quality, protection of local cultures and comparison with the global market, found a context made up of live and fruitful relationships, contributing significantly to the affirmation of Florence as a meeting place for different identities and traditions, and enhancing its role as a protagonist within the ambit of the most innovative creative expressions.

Fabbrica Europa is a permanent centre for the processing of new expressions, new languages and tissues among scenic arts, culture, visual arts and the international intellectual heritage and, through the interdisciplinary and intercultural dialogue, it invites interlocutors coming from various backgrounds to compare in an “open scene” beyond the boundaries of individual knowledge and experiences, as well as beyond geographical borders. Point of reference of a wide network of productive realities, during its eighteen editions, Fabbrica Europa has become one of the most interesting showcases and melting pots of the national and international scenery, with more than 100 planned events and the participation of about 1,800 artists coming from 90 different countries.

“Worlds of Culture”, the18^th edition of the Festival of Florence and of Tuscany, opens a new survey on the many “cultural islands” making the richness of Europe. The focus is on some territories which, even though belonging to the “global world” that is today our continent, keeps a recognizable identity and fertile originality.

Fabbrica Europagathers national and international projects and productions realized by appreciated masters and by a new generation of artists which, through the contamination among different disciplines, broaden the horizon of the contemporary artistic languages.

From 3^rd to 28^th May 2011, with a programme rich in dance, theatre and music events, installations, workshops and meetings, the Festival is the occasion to draw a more and more up-to-date map of the considerations going through contemporary Europe.
