What has become of the ESDP? Prospects for European integration in the field of defence

The Fondazione Circolo Rosselli and the CESUE, on the occasion of the Festival d’Europa, organize on Friday 6th May at Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a meeting aimed at analyzing the topic of security and defence in the future of the European Union. The round table will centre on the elaboration of the importance of EU in international crises – with special focus on the Libyan situation – and the comparison on the challenges of the continent and the advantages that would bring a foreign and defence policy common, besides the economic benefits of rationalization and cost reduction, also to the creation of an European political identity.

Poets set to Music: Concert of the choir of the European University Institute

On Saturday 7th May at 6 p.m., choristers from France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, Russia, UK and USA, led by the conductor Valerio Del Piccolo, will gather at the Biblioteca delle Oblate for the concert of the Choir of the European University Institute. The concert includes the reading of poetical texts and singing their musicalization. It belongs to the project “Poeti in musica” (Poets set to music), whose objective is to illustrate some examples of the importance of the relationship existing between the poetical text and its setting to music. The concert falls within the programme of the Festival d’Europa and is organized in association with the European University Institute, promoter of the Festival.

European painting is the protagonist at the Festival d’Europa

European painting is the protagonist at the Festival d’Europa thanks to the meeting planned on Friday 6th May from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Palazzo Ridolfi in via Maggio 13. Organized by the Salone dell’Arte e del Restauro in cooperation with the Associazione Via Maggio, the event will be aimed at discovering the language of colour and shape in the European painting, through the reading of remarkable both antique and contemporary European works of art by the experts Luisa Nannini Del Campana and Giuliana Serrapede. With the support of images and films the two experts will allow the audience to get acquainted with the expressive language and its techniques and they will make references to the artistic traditions and the scientific discoveries concerning visual perception.

The preservation of the historical faÇades: it will be discussed at the Festival d'Europa

“Storia e materia: le facciate delle architetture d’Europa e di Firenze” (History and matter: the façades of the European and Florence architectures): this is the title of the meeting organized by the Associazione Palazzo Spinelli, in cooperation with the Associazione Via Maggio, which will be held on Monday 9th May from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Palazzo Ridolfi in Via Maggio 13. The monumental bicoloured graffiti façade of the Palazzo di Bianca Cappello, looking onto Via Maggio and that can be widely enjoyed from the windows of the opposite Palazzo Ridolfi, will be the setting of the conference providing for the concerted communications of two art historians, Eleonora Pecchioli and Claudio Paolini, and of a conservator architect, Paolo Pieri-Nerli, who have been dealing with the delicate matter of preservation of historical façades for many years by adopting multifarious approaches.
