Italy-Germany Face to Face: Beyond the Stereotypes

An occasion to better know one other, an initiative to overcome the classical prejudices and stereotypes that oppose the countries forming Europe. It is organized by the Deutsches Institut Florenz that, on 6th May at 7 p.m. in its premises in Borgo Ognissanti 9, presents “Italia - Germania 4 (pregiudizi) a 3. The debate, included in the schedule of the Festival d’Europa, will be attended by the Director of the Institute Heiner Roland, the journalist Damiano Fedeli and some German and Italian reporters. The speakers will talk about how media in Italy describes Germany and vice-versa, and will try to identify the latest tendencies of the relation between the two countries, to understand if Italy is actually losing appeal in German media and public opinion and if the traditional passion of Germans for Italy is finished and the reason why young Italians love Berlin so much.

Premio Galileo. Joseph Borrell’s Speech, President of the European University Institute

Josep Borrell spoke yesterday during a press conference on Premio Galileo: “The Festival d’Europa - said the president of the European University Institute - represents an initiative that will turn Florence into one of the European capitals for five days, thanks to an extraordinary variety of events.
The Premio Galileo is among the most relevant events scheduled, and this year, on the occasion of the first edition of the Festival d’Europa, is dedicated to the European values. As a matter of fact, the prestigious award will be given to those who have participated or are participating, with their efforts, in the daily making of the united Europe and in the development of European values, without disregarding the values of Peace and Culture that have always been behind the objectives of the Premio Galileo.
On behalf of the Institute, I would like to thank Alfonso De Virgiliis and the whole Scientific Committee of the award for allowing an initiative that enhances the rich programme of the Festival and that has been possible thanks to the deep sharing of values and purposes between the Institute and the Committee”.
